Though most of us are loathe to admit it, summer is almost gone. The light is fading and the temperatures are falling, so it’s time to prep your home for the change of season. The following tips will save you money and keep your home safe and cozy as the cold begins to creep.
- Seal up air leaks
Heat escapes through cracks and vents, and gaps in doors and windows. Spend the time to find and seal air leaks, and you’ll end up saving money later.
- Check up on your roof
While the weather is still nice, get up on your roof (or pay someone else to) and make sure everything is as it should be. The last thing you want is to find out the hard way that a shingle fell off, exposing your home to water damage when the rain comes.
- Check your smoke detectors
Do you hear that? That annoying beeping coming from…somewhere? That’s probably a smoke detector that needs a new battery. Go ahead and check them all, then replace batteries, as needed. It’s time.
